Driving to my field site this morning, I encountered a species that has eluded me for years: Asio flammeus, the Short-eared Owl. I’ve only ever heard a couple barks and watched something fly like a floppy Northern Harrier in the distance at dusk. So seeing her close up this morning made me one happy dude.
